“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.”
— Colossians 3:8
The phrase “filthy communication” occurs only once in scripture (the verse above). It refers to “shameful words coming out of the mouth” … implying those who are risen with the Lord Jesus Christ (vs. 1) should never utter improper or filthy words, which he/she might have spoken prior to their salvation.
The true Christian is a new creature with a new vocabulary. It is genuine and easy to discern and perceive. The word “vocabulary” means “the stock of words used by or known to a particular people or group of persons.”

Those who truly belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Galatians 5:24), including the language. They hate, repent, and renounce cussin’ … that’s right, cussin’ … (it’s more emphatic than cursing). AMEN!
How do we stand out from the world and speak the same filthy language? WE DON’T AND NEVER WILL! That’s one reason why “CUSSIN’ CHRISTIANS” WILL NOT STAND IN THE JUDGMENT (Psalm 1:5)! We know, “…as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment….” (Hebrews 9:27). God will render to every one of us according to our deeds, that is, in accordance with what we deserve (Romans 2:6).
